Techniques Used By Our Therapists
These techniques, tailored to each individual's needs, help promote recovery, increase mobility, and improve the overall quality of life.
Many of the below are specialised techniques used by our experienced and skilled therapists.
Movement Facilitation
Movement facilitation involves guiding and encouraging the patient to move in a way that maximizes their function and reduces pain. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with neuromuscular conditions or injuries that affect mobility. Physiotherapists use specific exercises and hands-on techniques to improve coordination, strength, and range of motion. The goal is to restore normal movement patterns and enhance daily functioning.
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF)
PNF is a therapeutic technique designed to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion. It combines sensory cues with movement patterns to promote functional movement. Often used with patients recovering from stroke, injury, or neurological conditions, PNF focuses on activating muscle groups and enhancing coordination, leading to better mobility and strength.
Gait Retraining
Gait retraining focuses on restoring proper walking patterns in individuals with difficulty moving, whether due to injury, neurological conditions, or surgery. By analyzing the way a patient walks, physiotherapists provide personalized exercises and corrections to improve posture, balance, and stride. This technique helps people regain independence and reduces the risk of falls.
Cervico-Vestibular Rehabilitation
Cervico-vestibular rehab targets the relationship between the neck (cervical spine) and the vestibular system, which controls balance and spatial orientation. It benefits those suffering from dizziness, vertigo, or balance issues, often due to head injuries or disorders like cervical vertigo. Treatment involves exercises that help improve coordination, reduce dizziness, and restore balance.
Sensory Retraining
Sensory retraining is designed to help individuals who have lost or altered sensory functions, such as those with nerve damage, stroke, or other neurological conditions. The therapy involves exercises that stimulate the senses (touch, vision, or proprioception- where you body is in space) to retrain the brain and improve sensory awareness. This leads to better body awareness and functional abilities.
Bobath Techniques
Bobath techniques, also known as Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), are used to assist individuals with neurological impairments such as stroke, cerebral palsy, or brain injuries. This approach focuses on normalizing muscle tone, improving posture, and retraining motor skills through tailored exercises. It encourages patients to regain control of movement and enhances functional independence.
Dix-Hallpike Manoeuvre (for BPPV/ Vertigo patients)
The Dix-Hallpike manoeuvre is a diagnostic and treatment technique for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). By positioning the patient in specific ways, physiotherapists can identify the cause of dizziness and provide treatments to reposition the inner ear crystals that cause balance disturbances. This technique often provides immediate relief for people experiencing vertigo.
